These subjects can either be moral agents or moral patients.
Moral agents are individuals with sophisticated abilities, ability to bring impartial moral principles in oder to make choices and make a choice to either fail or act morally (e.g healthy humans)
Moral patients lack these prerequistires that would enable them to control their own behaviour (e.g babies, animals)
Therefore, only agents can do wrong, no patients.
He says that if we treat indivisuals the way we should, there would not be problems. Importantly, it is not an act of kindness to treat animals respectfully. It is an act of justice.
It is ok to kill animals only if they pose an imminent threat (e.g a wolf about to attack you)

Hunting for the purpose of profiting a business is wrong. There are other ways to do it.
No species is better than the other. If out of 2 animals, one an endangered species, and the other a plentiful species, it is no worse to kill the animal who is part of the plentiful species. No species is better than the other (Regan advocates individual animal rights)
